Sealing and Protecting

Seal & Design Inc. offers a variety of sponges and foams for use on the rail car access panels and doors. These materials are generally installed to seal panels and doors that are used infrequently, and do not require high tensile strength.

  • Silicones: Used for high temperature areas, such as electrical panels, and doors that require FDA approved materials. Also meets FST requirements for flame, smoke, and toxicity. The SCE-41 Neoprene Sponge offers a low-cost alternative when high temperature or FDA approved materials are not required.
  • 35 AA and Flex 35 Solid Neoprene: Recommended for access panels and doors that receive frequent use. This product has a high tensile strength, and can be used to provide hollow bulb seal extrusion, molded parts, or die cut bumpers. We can also extrude hollow bulb seals in "P" or "D" shapes, cut the lengths of the extrusion, and bond or vulcanize the corners together to form square or rectangular panel gaskets.
  • Battery cover gaskets are made of softer sponges and foams since they are not removed or replaced on a constant basis. Our high temperature silicones are used around batteries and electrical panels.
